Get Your FIRST CHAPTER Seen!
Welcome to The Storyteller’s First Chapter Contest
This October, we’re launching a NEW and unique contest! Unlike most contest opportunities (including our usuals) that focus on a single page or a query letter, the Storyteller’s First Chapter Contest allows you to submit a full opening chapter—up to 2,500 words. This is your chance to give your story’s beginning the spotlight it deserves, showcase your work to publishing professionals, and receive feedback and mentorship designed to help you take the next steps in your writing career.
You don’t need a completed manuscript to enter—just a powerful first chapter of up to 2,500 words. Writers may submit as many entries as they choose (each as a separate submission).
✨ What You’ll Gain
📢 All Entrants Receive:
A detailed score sheet with feedback from industry professionals—giving you actionable insights on what’s working in your chapter and where it can be strengthened.
🏅 Semi-Finalists (15 Selected):
Each semi-finalist will receive a ½-hour in-depth feedback call with Mary Weber and C.J. Redwine (New York Times bestselling authors). This call will not only discuss your chapter but also give you the chance to ask questions about the publishing industry.
🏆 Finalists (4 Selected):
Each finalist will receive a 1-hour private industry mentorship call with Mary and C.J. Finalists can choose from the following mentorship tracks:
Building Staying Power in the Industry – Creating a sustainable writing career without burnout.
Crafting a Career Vision Beyond One Book – Developing long-term strategy for series potential, branding, and audience identity.
